Strawberry Fest – Important Information

We are excited to be hosting Strawberry Fest at the Farm today from 10-3. To plan for your visit, please take into consideration that Mother Nature has blessed us with 3 inches of rain this week and although strawberry plants like rain, ripe strawberries do not! Some berries may just have bad tips and others may be mushy. You can help us out by picking off the bad berries and dropping them in the row. If it’s only the tip that looks bad, these berries are still delicious and great for smoothies, jams, shortcakes and sundaes!

We highly recommend a pair of fashionable rain boots or a change of shoes. In some places it is simply wet and in others it may be muddy. To thank you for your understanding, for each quart of strawberries picked from the field, you will receive a free ear of popcorn when you check out in the Farm Market. The ears can be placed in a brown paper bag and microwaved for a delicious family snack of popcorn!

We understand that some of you may not want to pick strawberries or won’t be able to find what you are looking for, so we will have Virginia grown strawberries available for purchase in the Farm Market (while supply lasts) and blueberries as well!

On the plus side, the weather today is helping more berries to ripen and tomorrow’s weather is looking better and better. We have our hat contest and berry best dressed baby/toddler contest, fairy house workshops and a wonderful selection of local farm vendors to visit with and buy their local products.

We will be popping popcorn, and sampling strawberry salsa and strawberry butter throughout the day along with making fresh ice cream for strawberry sundaes. Hot dogs and barbecue will also be available for purchase from the Orange Church of the Nazarene, as well as produce and more in the Farm Market. So, although it may not be the day we envisioned, it just may be the Strawberry Fest we all remember as the one with all the rain…

Please remember all farm rules apply including no pets, smoking or alcohol on the farm at any time. Thank you!
